Thermal Shield® liners were developed in the late 1990s in southern California. Shippers of fresh seafood products were seeking an environmentally friendly alternative to expanded polystyrene (eps) foam products. A small distributor of seafood packaging introduced the foil-laminated bubble pack liners that would become Thermal Shield®.

Thermal Shield® shippers soon discovered a wide array of benefits. In addition to its environmental benefits, Thermal Shield® provided solutions to a variety of challenges including temperature maintenance, size flexibility, cross contamination, packaging storage space, cushioning for fragile products, fragrance migration, and durability. In 1999, the first of what would lead to multiple patents protecting Thermal Shield® packaging products was issued by the United States Patent and Trademark office.

Today, Thermal Shield® is protecting a diverse group of temperature-sensitive products in a variety of challenging environments.
